“Football does not build character. Football reveals character.”

Winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary for 2012, Undefeated is a close-up look at the trials and tribulations of a high school football team in Memphis. Apart from focusing on a few key players, the real star of the film is really their coach, Bill Courtney. An inspiring personality, Courtney genuinely cares for his players and imparts to them much more than just football skills. He kept them away from the streets, taught them simple life principles and practically changed their lives for the better.

Although a little slow in building up, the patient audience is rewarded in the second half of the documentary as we follow the team chronologically in their various exciting games of the season. The final games of the season are especially tense and emotionally charged.

Highly recommended!
