15 – Roystan Tan (2002)

This is one of the best short films that hail from Singapore. It won a Special Achievement Award for Short Film during the 15th Singapore International Film Festival. In my opinion, Roystan Tan is definitely one of the most talented young filmmakers from Singapore. Unfortunately, the video at YouTube is of the wrong aspect ratio. It should be widescreen 16:9.

Playback (HD) (Winner of Grand Video Award at Creative Video Awards 2011)

I really like this short film by Tan Siang Yu and often show it to my students as an example of how a simple story can be made. He is certainly very talented. When elderly Lee finds a toy gun in his store room, he is transported back in time to his childhood days, where he meets his play pal, […]

Chinese Garden – JVC GY-HM700 Test

This is a test on JVC GY-HM700 with Canon KT14x4.4KRSJ lens. It has been out for a year but I have only gotten my hands on one recently. First of all, I must admit I fell in love with this camera at first sight. I feel it is the sexiest and most beautiful video camera around, having the best of […]

Sundown – A Canon 7D Film

This experimental short film was shot using the HDSLR camera, Canon EOS 7D. My brother bought one recently for photography and I have borrowed it to try it out and understand what the HDSLR craze is all about. Rolling On – An iPhone Film

This is an experimental short film to test the video capability of the iPhone 3Gs. iPhone only has a very basic implementation of video. The only option, apart from the Start/Stop recording button, is to touch the targeted area on screen to focus. After shooting, you can trim the scenes in the phone itself. There is very little colour grading […]
